What Is Localbird?

Localbird is for people who like to travel locally and want to discover places and cultures.

Localbird is for locals who want to open their horizons and make international connections.
Our Story

Localbird is a project started in the Canary Islands in 2021, right after the pandemic. It was born out of a recent and sudden growth, globally, of the need for authentic, responsible and environmentally friendly travel experiences. The need to connect with local communities and the importance of eco-tourism leaders representing the destination.
Tourism
Usually this word is not perceived in a good way by local communities. Most of the time this is because:
Mass tourism is not directly contributing to local communities and, most of the time, is not providing a digital friendly communication.
The average tourist does not care about the negative impact it causes in the destiny and as a result, the local is wary of sharing spaces in their local area with the tourists.
Trends
With eco-traveling, we are facing a new trend in tourism that is growing very fast, especially in new digital generations that are more aware of sustainability goals, they want to re-connect with nature and reality because they are digital natives.
Eco-travel
Ecotourism focuses on providing a meaningful and sustainable experience that does not change the infrastructure, culture or economy of the destination’s population.
Eco-traveling is not only related to the environment, but also to the achievement of local objectives such as a stable and circular economy, development, education and monitoring of good practices related to tourism, promotion and collaboration with local businesses.
Our Commitment
As an ecotourism business, Localbird is committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs provide a framework for sustainable development, including the development of sustainable tourism practices that respect the environment and support local communities.
