SDGs Implementation

As an ecotourism business, Localbird promotes sustainable tourism aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting the environment and local communities.

According to the UN, sustainable tourism supports several SDGs, promoting responsible tourism practices. Localbird strives to align with these goals.

We believe eco-tourism drives positive change and are committed to supporting the SDGs. By partnering with local businesses, communities, and governments, we aim to build a sustainable future that benefits both people and the planet.

Our Mission

We connect internationals and locals through immersive experiences that strengthen integration and allow local communities to benefit directly from them.

Our Vision

To become a leading, innovative and pioneering project in transforming tourists into eco-tourists by creating an ecosystem that allows for better integration and directly benefits the local economy and in turn enables its development in line with the 2030 Agenda.

Our Values

Education, sharing, love for nature, localism, sustainable development.

Converting Tourists to ecotourists

Converting tourists into ecotourists requires a combination of education, awareness, and offering sustainable travel experiences. This is why we provide information on the importance of sustainable tourism and its positive impact on the environment and local communities while performing the experiences.

We have developed a range of ecotourism activities and experiences that allow tourists to directly engage with nature and conservation efforts while discovering and experiencing the island.

We promote local workshops, seminars and activities that educate tourists about local ecosystems, biodiversity and conservation efforts.

We support the local economy by including partnerships with local businesses and communities (LocalBuddies).

SDG 4:
Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Target 4.7: “by 2030 ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”

We are committed to sustainable development through education and cultural exchange. Our experiences are designed to promote understanding, tolerance, and respect for cultural diversity and the natural environment. By integrating sustainability into our activities, we empower both visitors and local communities. Through workshops, guided experiences, and community-led storytelling, we encourage lifelong learning and the development of values that support respect and equality.

SDG 8:
Decent work and economic growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Target 8.9: “by 2030, devise and implement policies to promote sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products”

Collaborating with local communities, we actively engage in empowering small local businesses to generate meaningful employment opportunities. We work closely with locals, ensuring that their knowledge and skills are respected, valued and shared with visitors. In addition we promote the consumption of locally produced goods and services. Our experiences and trips include local markets, natural local places and direct contact with the local culture.

SDG 12:
responsible consumption and production

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Target 12.8:  “By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature”

Target 12.b:  “develop and implement tools to monitor sustainable development impacts for sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products”.

Furthermore, we prioritize the use of locally sourced products and activities. By encouraging the consumption of locally produced goods and services, we contribute to the economic growth of small local businesses. We strive to create a sustainable ecosystem where the benefits of tourism reach beyond the visitor experience and extend to the local communities who depend on these industries for their livehoods.

SDG 13:
Climate Action

TAKE URGENT ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACTS

Target 13.3: “improve education, awareness raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning.”

Recognizing the urgent need to address climate change, we actively promote climate education and awareness through all our activities. Our experiences are designed to increase understanding of the causes and impacts of climate change, particularly in vulnerable ecosystems. We integrate practical knowledge on sustainability and climate resilience into our experiences, workshops, and community engagement. By fostering dialogue and encouraging responsible behavior, we aim to equip both visitors and local communities with the tools and mindset necessary to take meaningful climate action.

SDG 14:
life below water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Target 14.7 : “by 2030 increase the economic benefits to Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries from the sustainable use of marine resources, including through sustainable management of fisheries, aquaculture and tourism

The preservation of the marine ecosystem is crucial for the well-being of both the local community and the global environment.  In the last 40 years, the Canary Islands have lost 90% of their biodiversity. This is why in order to improve the awareness of the situation we have developed a range of experiences that allow visitors to engage with the ocean in a sustainable and educational manner.

SDG 15:
life on land

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Target 15.4:  “by 2030, ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems, including their biodiversity, in order to enhance their capacity to provide benefits that are essential for sustainable development”

According to UNESCO Gran Canaria has 43% of land protected area. It is why our primary objective is to foster awareness about our surroundings, the destinations we visit, and the significance of preserving and safeguarding these areas.

Preservation entails a range of actions, including conscientiously disposing of litter we come across or produce ourselves. Protection, on the other hand, begins with refraining from sharing the precise location of these places on social media, and extends to enlightening our clients through their experience about the paramount importance of safeguarding these areas.

By focusing on these aspects, we actively contribute to the conservation and protection of our natural and cultural heritage.

SDG 17:
partnerships for the goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.

Target 17.17: “Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships”

This SDG aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem among diverse stakeholders to effectively achieve the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Localbird actively collaborates with small local businesses, working towards their growth and sustainability. Additionally, Localbird extends its support to governments by providing innovative solutions to transition from conventional mass tourism to sustainable eco-tourism. By facilitating partnerships and offering innovative approaches, Localbird contributes in advancing the objectives of this SDG.
